The Best Gas Grill for Every Budget

Buying Guide

Whether you’re a true blue BBQ lover or you live for hosting special events at home, having a gas grill is one way to impress guests and loved ones alike.

Unlike a charcoal grill, a gas grill offers more control, allowing you to cook all types of meats, vegetables, seafood, and even fruits, however you want it. Most gas grills also come with added niceties, such as a rotisserie, smoking box, a warming rack, and side burners. Of course, the more extra features and add-ons a gas grill has, the more expensive it is!

Factors to Consider When Shopping for Gas Grills

On the hunt for a gas grill? Here are some of the most important features to keep in mind during your search:

Price: Gas grills costs between $100 to $1,000 and the right one for you will depend on your budget. Also, gas grills do not come with a propane tank so that will add to the total cost of the grill.

Purpose: Are you getting your own personal grill, a family grill, or a larger grill that’s able to cook 15 steaks at the same time? How you plan to use your grill is also an important factor you need to consider when shopping around!

Size: Would you rather get a compact-sized grill for family BBQs or a large grill for when you have friends over? Do you live in a small apartment or a sizable home with a yard? The size of the grill that’s right for you will depend on the amount of space you have at home.

Material: Grills are made of various materials, some of the most common are stainless steel, cast iron, and cast aluminum. Each of these materials has their own pros and cons. The weather, outdoor temps, and humidity level in your local area will be a factor in terms of finding the perfect grill for you.

Grates: Durable grates are a must feature in any grill so don’t settle for anything less. When subjected to intense heat, the grates’ material could chip off on your food so choose those that are made from heavy cast iron or porcelain-coated grates.

Extra Features: Who doesn’t like a little extra? Even the most basic grills come with certain features that you’ll find useful in a variety of ways. These extras include side burners, sear burners, smokers, Baffle system, grease channels, and convection features.

The good news is, gas grills come in an array of types and price points and there’s a perfect grill that suits your needs and budget the best. In this review, we will look at some of the highest rated budget and high-end gas grills you can get on the market.

We’re starting our list with the stylish Dyna-Glo bronze gas grill, a commercial grade grill with two tube burners. Each tube burner generates 12,000 British Thermal Unit or BTUs while the side burners emit a total of 60,000 BTUs.

The Dyna-Glo Bronze features four burners, 2 pieces of heavy gauge enameled cast iron grates, a steel warming rack and double wall lid with heating vents. At the lower portion of the grill is a cabinet-style cart installed with heavy-duty casters. With just a push of a button, you’re ready to start grilling! This elegant gas burner is not only stylish, it’s capable of grilling everything from meats to veggies, seafood to sausages at the same time thanks to its generous 667 square inches of cooking space!

We loved the level of quality and value this griller offers at such an affordable price point. The Dyna-Glo bronze impresses with its user-friendly controls and large grilling capacity. The only downside is that the materials get too hot too fast so you’ll have to watch yourself or you just might sear an arm. The grill needs more improvement. Also, the knobs are made from a sort of smooth plastic material so they appear cheap and flimsy.

Char-Broil Classic 4-Burner Gas Grill

The Char-Broil brand’s classic, 4-burner gas grill is a beautiful, contemporary grill with striking stainless steel cover. It’s definitely a looker! This gas grill generates 40,000 BTU on the primary cooking section while the side burner emits 10,000 BTUs. The primary cooking area is about 480 square inches in size and is made from porcelain-coated cast iron. On the other hand, the secondary cooking section is about 180 square inches with porcelain-coated swing away.

On the other hand, the secondary cooking section is about 180 square inches with porcelain-coated swing away.

This grill is definitely a must if you have a large family. The performance is dependable and the swing away warming rack offers plenty of extra cooking space. It also comes with a one-push starter, eliminating the hassles of firing up the grill. Also, the grates are made from thick, quality steel that’s rust-resistant. The temperature gauge ensures the optimum cooking temps. We also loved the portability of this griller; you can literally move this griller around!

As for the negatives, some say the components of the grill leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, they can be quite cheap looking so the quality is not as impressive. It’s not the most feature-packed griller but the performance is excellent.

The Blackstone gas grill generates a total output of 60,000 BTUs. Each of the four burners generates about 15,000 BTU.

If you’re all about healthy cooking, you’ll love the excess grease channel that catches and get rids of unwanted grease from your food. The Blackstone gas grill and griddle station is not only a hard worker, it’s also versatile and portable. It features industrial-strength caster wheels with a  security lock so you can move it around with ease and lock the grill in place.

The Blackstone gas grill and griddle station is stripped down in terms of feature but it makes up for the larger cooking area. However, it’s not the most durable looking grillers out there. The frames look flimsy and the lack of cover on the bottom shelf won’t keep insects away when you’re cooking outdoors. Also, some users say it takes a while before you can warm this griller up for cooking but we did not have the same issue.

Dyna-Glo DGE Series Propane Grill

Dyna-Glo’s DGE series grill features 4 stainless-steel, commercial grade tube burners with an output of 10,000 BTU’s each. The side burners generate 12,000 BTUs, totaling 52,000 BTU cooking power. The larger 646 square inches cooking space lets you grill more food and the heavy-duty grates ensure even cooking every time.

The larger 646 square inches cooking space lets you grill more food and the heavy-duty grates ensure even cooking every time.

And speaking of cooking grates, the DGE grill comes with 3 7 mm stainless steel grates plus a large warming rack and heat tents. The cabinet-style compartment at the bottom offers convenient food preps. There’s also a tank pull out tray but you have to purchase this separately. The DGE features an integrated temperature gauge, taking the guesswork out of maintaining the perfect grilling temp.

We also loved the quality of the custom-fit cover. This grill comes with all the features you can expect from premium grillers but at a fraction of the cost. The intuitive features ensure perfectly cooked foods and they are so user-friendly that you won’t have trouble coming out with great results every time.

We just wish the side tables fold down so it becomes more compact when not in use. It’s a great burner indeed but it does burn too hot too fast and the components are on the flimsy side. Also, the stainless steel cover is sold separately.

Weber 46510001 Spirit E310 Liquid Propane Gas Grill

Rounding up our list of gas grillers under 500 bucks is the Weber Spirit E310 gas grill. This fine looking griller features stainless steel side tables, 3 stainless steel burners and a modest 424 -square inch of cooking area. The burners put out a total output of 32,000 BTU-per-hour. It also comes with 105 -square inch warming area, porcelain-coated cast iron grates, and flavorizer bars. The electronic ignition button allows you to get the fire roaring in no time at all.

The Spirit E310 is quite durable with lots of nifty features to play with. The cast iron grates retain heat efficiently, ensuring a nice, even cooking!

Other extra features worth noting is the grease management channel, perfect for cooking healthy dishes as well as the easy to clean cast aluminum cook box and the fuel gauge. Using the grill, we’re quite impressed with its quality. However, some users say theirs came with broken, twisted, or defective components. We never had issues with our unit but this is something to keep in mind when purchasing a griller from this brand. Our only gripe is that the burners are only 3, while most of the cheaper grills on this list come with 4 burners. Also, the total cooking output is lower and the cooking area is smaller than most grillers at this price point.

$1,000 and Below

Mid-rage grills that are $1,000 and below will come with higher cooking output, an arsenal of cooking features plus generous cooking area. These grills are perfect for those who live for grilling because the units can take on big jobs.

Inside the cart, there are 6 tool hooks for added convenience during food preps.

The burner tubes are not only durable, they’re also easy to clean, saving you less time on cleanup and more time grilling some meat, yes! The level of control over each burner is also nice; you have the option to grill directly or indirectly. The generous cooking space grills meat evenly but you can also fine-tune the heat level. There are not many negative reviews on the 6511001. We’ve road tested this griller and it passed with flying colors. However, some users say their 6511001s were defective. The incident is an isolated one but worth noting when you’re getting this griller.

What’s unique about this griller is it can be converted into a natural gas burner. The propane gas powered griller comes with a “natural gas orifice kit” allowing you to switch from propane gas to natural gas easily.

There’s not much to complain about this griller because it exceeded our expectations when we gave it a go. Was it worth the price? Yes but only if you’re looking for a versatile performer otherwise, you cannot maximize Pacific Living’s gas grille.

$2,000 and Above

Top of the line grillers come with features that offer far more cooking methods than grilling. These grills may come with a smoker box, rotisserie, convection oven, 4 to 6 burners, and so much more. The heftier price tag also means the grillers are larger, able to accommodate more cooking jobs during special events and parties!

Napoleon Grills Prestige 500 Propane Gas Grill

Napoleon is a trusted brand when it comes to high-end grillers and the Prestige 500 is as high end as it can get! This stainless steel beauty features a rotisserie kit, side burners, infrared burner, and a sexy form factor to match. According to Napoleon, this griller has the capabilities of a full kitchen that’s why we put this baby to the test!

We can say that this griller is very advanced. Its four burners had no problems completing a variety of cooking jobs at the same time, very important when you have a lot of hungry guests! The infrared burners are a nice addition because of its versatility. There’s one at the rear and another on the side, giving you plenty of space to prep and cook. The covered cart is, of course, a great addition to this very capable griller because we love roomy grills. The side burner alone can cook about 8 burgers at the same time while the main burners can do at least triple that number effortlessly.

Its JetFire control knobs give you more control over the heat and speed up the cooking time. The griller sports an all-aluminum exterior, giving an extra luxe appearance. It’s easy enough to assemble and right out the box, it’s ready to start grilling. The built is equally impressive, thanks to the thick stainless steel outer. Apart from the price, we really can’t find any fault in the  Prestige 500. A great buy for those who are taking their grilling to a whole new level. We just wish it came with more burners than the standard 4. Most grills at this price points come with at least 5 burners.

Napoleon LEX730RSBIPSS Propane Gas Grill

The Napoleon LEX730RSBIPSS features the same all steel exterior with a double walled domed cover and easy slide center drawers, a step up from the usually covered cart that’s standard in most grills. This grill features JetFire ignition system plus durable, stainless steel wave cooking grids that generate even heat for no fuss cooking.

The LEX730RSBIPSS also comes with an iGlow backlight controls, letting you warm up your meats and seafood for longer. There are several integrated tool hooks and condiment holders within the side shelves so you can store all your tools and favorite seasonings conveniently. The roomy side tables are also made with the same durable stainless steel material that the griller is made of and they feel stable and solid when used. Other extras include a range side burner, an integrated marinade bucket as well as a cutting area.

As for the negatives, putting the LEX730RSBIPSS together is tough. We had to keep checking the manual every second during set up. Also, at this price point, we feel that the LEX730RSBIPSS should come with more features to justify the extra $$$. For one thing, this grill is similar in features with its cheaper sibling, the Prestige 500.

Weber Summit 7320001 is another top of the line gas griller that sports a sleek all-stainless steel exterior. Overall, the Weber Summit 7320001 is a great grill, a workhorse that lets you cook your favorite grilled dishes quickly and easily. Again, it’s hard to find fault in this particular griller and if there’s one, it’s the plastic wheels, which might not be as durable as the rest of the griller’s all steel components.

Weber Summit 7370001 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill

Rounding off our list of high-end gas grill is the Weber Summit 7370001 stainless steel gas grill. This is a well-made grill and putting it to the test; we’re convinced that the 7370001 is one of the best grills that are available on the market. Is the price tag worth it? It is as long as you can maximize the grill itself. At more than two grand, this grill is designed specifically for BBQ junkies, not those who are getting into grilling for the first time. As for the negatives, some users say theirs came in with damaged components, which is unacceptable at this price point. That said, Weber offers a 5-year guarantee on all its grills for a worry-free purchase.
